Tak's Travel Tips & When to VisitIndia.....

Best Time to Visit India

Short Answer: The best time to visit India is between mid-November and March. In general, you can start in the south and head north as it will start getting humid and hot in the south.

Longer Answer: Southern India best time is mid-November through January. Landscape is green, temperatures are nice. February and March are also nice but getting warmer. By April and May the humidity can be nasty and the monsoons come in for June and July. After a month or so of clearing, a second monsoon blast can hit for October and November.

The Indian Himalayas are good between March (lower elevations), April (mid/higher elevations) and May (higher elevations) with relatively low rain and comfortable temperatures. Great weather starts somewhere between September and mid-October. October and November are known for clear blue skies and good visibility. The weather cools as this season goes on. You’d want to avoid, generally, June, July, August and early September as this period is the monsoon season and can be quite hot, and December through February, when the winter can be harsh.

In Kashmir, generally the best time to visit is between April and October. April through June would be the high season, with blooming flowers earlier in the period, warm days and cold nights. July and August should be okay with some rain. September and October are better with foliage, saffron flowers and so forth, with October being very nice. November through February are good if you want snow & skiing. March can be rainy and not optimal.

For Mumbai, avoid mid-May to mid-October unless you like rain and humidity. Best time to visit Mumbai would be November through April. For Goa, likewise, avoid the June, July and August timeframe especially due to extensive rains. Same for Kolkata. New Delhi is quite hot from April through mid-October with rains peaking in July and August (although nowhere near as much rain as places like Mumbai).
