Best Time to Visit the Dominican Republic
Short Answer: Mid-November to Mid-May.
Longer Answer: If you want to keep costs low, go in April or May. The Spring Break kids have left along with the high season. Mid-November to mid-December could also be good. If budget isn’t so much an issue, then anytime between mid-November and mid-May. As you progress into May, the thunderstorm chances increase.
For whatever its worth, the summer time was recommended to me by a local who said swimming in the rivers was a great thing to do in DR. However, summer is the height of thunderstorms and is part of the hurricane season (and hottest). As such, if you want to swim in rivers, go in the summer (June through August) I guess.
